Preface for the 2 Edition

This Memory was first published in Spring 2021.
After publication, several comments were received to me.
Owing to them, I partly corrected and enlarged the text.
Thanks for the precious comments to my work.

Especially heartfelt gratitude goes to K who is my senior at high school and the scholar of Japanese history. He wrote me a long letter in which entered into my subtle feeling with generosity. He will celebrate eighty-eighth birthday in this April.
At the beginning of writing, this memory was designed to the thought and teaching of French literature teacher who died early in his way to deepening his research and university life.

But his death was encircled by many tenderness.
I knew the facts through records and books that were touched his life.
So, after publication, I noticed that this essay must be dedicated to all the people who gathered at a small university on the hill, located southern area of Tokyo, including early died French teacher, his colleagues and so many people who had loved this university shortly after foundation.

So, at this 2 Edition, title was changed to Recounter 1969-1986 Dedicated a small university on the hill. The attached era is my registration year at the university.
Lastly I, saying again, deeply thanks to the all who warmly understood my thought for the writing, investigated half-a-century-before minute facts and encouraged me repeatedly for writing on.

第2版への序

この追想は2021年の春に刊行されました。
刊行後、あたたかな幾通かのご手紙をいただきました。
それらを幾度も拝読し、今回、本文の一部を補訂しました。
この追想についていただきました貴重なご意見に深謝します。
ことに私の高校の大先輩で、今春に米寿をむかえられ、なお粛々と歴史研究を続けておられるＫ先生からいただきました長文のお手紙は、私の内面の微細に至るまでを推し量り、つたないながらに書き上げたことを祝してくださいました。
この追想を書き始めた当初、中心をなしたのは、ご自身の研究と大学でのお仕事を深めていた途上で夭折されたひとりの仏文学者へのおもいを書き記すことにありました。
しかし書き進めるうちに、その逝去は、私には想像できなかった多くの優しさによって包まれていたことを知りました。
この機会に初めて披見した先生の生涯に触れた文章や著作に、それらの事実が詳細に記されていました。
私は初版刊行後、この追想は夭折された仏文学者を中心としながらも、先生とその同僚、また東京の南に位置する創立まもない丘の上の小さな大学に集ったすべての人々とその方々との出会いに、捧げるべきものとおもうに至りました。
従って、この第2版では、題名を『邂逅　1969年―1986年　丘の上の小さな大学に』としました。年号は私が大学に在籍していた二つの時期とその間の非在籍の時期を含めて示しています。
最後に、私がこの追想を書くことへのおもいをあたたかく理解してくださり、また半世紀前となる細かな諸事実を精査してご報告くださり、書き続けることに繰り返し励ましてくださったすべての人に、あらためて心からの感謝を申し述べます。
